Mastering the Art of French Cooking

Bordeaux is not only a destination for wine connoisseurs but also for foodie travelers who are interested in the food and wine harmony. Aside to the wine tours to Saint-Emilion, Medoc, Graves and Sauternes, you will certainly keep a couple of days for discovering the city of Bordeaux – listed at the UNESCO world heritage – and for experiencing the local cuisine not only at restaurant but also in a cooking school.

The Bordeaux cuisine features river-fish stews such as “lamproie à la bordelaise", beef steak served with red wine sauce “entrecôte à la bordelaise", delicious cannelés (rum cup cakes) and dunes blanches (tiny choux pastry filled with whipped cream and topped with icing sugar). BUT NOT ONLY! Arcachon is popular for shellfish, caviar and oysters, Bazas is one of the best fatted oxen, the nearby Perigord brings duck breast and confit, goose and duck foie gras, walnuts and walnut oil. The Garonne fertile plain north of Bordeaux and the region's exceptional panorama of produce feature prized fruits and vegetables.

Join us in Mandel's cooking school to partake a hands-on cooking class taught in English. You will learn how to prepare and to cook a 3-course meal including a starter, a main course and a dessert. Menus follow the seasonal produce from the market. Sample menus can include : Eggs Meurette (red wine sauce), Foie gras creme brulee, Blaye asparagus and its mousseline cream, Rack of Lamb in a crust of herbs, “Parmentier" duck confit, Chicken supreme cooked in Sauternes wine, Grand Marnier soufflé, etc.

Cooking classes are scheduled Tuesday through Sunday, starting at 10:45am. Your class is taught in English, and the recipes (emailed after the class) will be in English. Please remind that we always consider our clients likes, dislikes, food restrictions and/or allergies. This has to be mentioned before booking, and the menu will be created accordingly.

Tasting lunch accompanied by wine follows the class, and it's served in the elegant dining room. In summer, your will enjoy the fruits of your labor on the open-air terrace facing the garden and the pool.

Program price: US$180 per person (2 to 6 people in the class) - Private class for one person: US$270

Scheduled: Tuesday to Sunday at 10:45am, year round except December 15-31 and January.
