A Taste of Lyon original tour takes you to world-renowned chef/restaurateur Daniel Boulud hometown of Lyon for a pilgrimage to the so-called Mecca of French cuisine and rich food culture, but not only ! Lyon is listed at the Unesco and offers so many cultural explorations from the Saint-Jean Renaissance quarter, to the Roman ruins and its spectacular amphitheater, the hill of Fourvière, the picturesque Croix Rousse which is the former silk weavers quarter, the painted walls frescos, the Saône banks, the peninsula where you find the fine arts museum and the opera house, etc.
Indulge in the authentic city of Lyon and La Villa sur la Colline modern-design guesthouse located in La Croix Rousse, an alive residential district with its typical restaurants and café, small shops, also paying tribute to its past with interesting silk museum. Join our greeter guide on place Bellecour (the central point in the city) for a unique exploration of Saint-Georges and Saint-Jean Renaissance quarters built along the Saone river and down the hill of Fourviere.
Follow your guide through the narrow cobble-stone streets, the secret courtyards and galleries that are called « traboules ». Admire the unique Florentine architecture of splendid carved and ocre-coloured facades.
You won't miss La Maison des Avocats, as well as La Tour Rose… Feel the very special atmosphere of predestrians streets bordered by cafés, « bouchons » traditional bistrots, small shops, etc. Walking tour is scheduled Thursday afternoon, starting at 4pm.
Explore the Beaujolais vineyards & Pérouges medieval village - Meet your guide on Place Bellecour. After a 45 minutes drive, you arrive to the Beaujolais considered as France prettiest wine region. You will discover the unknown beauty of the Golden Stones country with its quaint medieval towns and majestic castles. Visit the picturesque village of Oingt and enjoy panoramic views of stunning landscapes with rolling hills dotted with vineyards.
Then, push the door of a family winery and immerse yourself in history, “terroir" and tradition meeting the winemaker himself. Experience a private vineyards inspection; learn of the wine making process and wine taste several Beaujolais wines in a friendly atmosphere.
The afternoon excursion guides you to Pérouges medieval village through La Dombes, famous for its ponds, migratory birds, and preserved nature. Arriving to Pérouges is like traveling through the middle age times. Visit the fortress church, walk along cobblestone streets and admire the architecture of 13th to 16th typical half-timbered houses. Take your time to enter little craft souvenirs shops and taste the famous « Galette de Pérouges » pastry !
Day 1 (Wednesday) : Early afternoon check-in at the guesthouse. Afternoon 2-hour walking tour in Lyon Saint-Georges and Saint-Jean historic quarters, guided by our greeter. Welcome dinner in a traditional restaurant facing the guesthouse. Overnight at the villa.
Day 2 (Thursday) : Continental breakfast. Take a taxi to get to the cooking school located in Sainte-Foy-les-Lyon (about 20 minutes distance). At 9:30am, partake the first cooking class which is private and taught in English. This class celebrates the French and Lyonnaise traditional cuisine. 3-course tasting lunch accompanied by wine follows the class. Your cooking program will ends around 1:30pm. Afternoon free for visiting or shopping. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the villa.
Day 3 (Friday) : Continental breakfast. At 9:30am, get to the cooking school by foot (about 10 minutes). Experience the food market of La Croix Rousse with the chef before starting your cooking class which is taught in English, and limited to 6 participants. 5-course tasting lunch accompanied by wine. Your cooking program will ends around 5pm. Late afternoon free for visiting or shopping. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the villa.
Day 4 (Saturday) : Continental breakfast. Meet your tour guide on place Bellecour at 9:00am. Transfer to the Golden Stones area in the Beaujolais. Visit to a family-run winery. Lunch on your own. Afternoon excursion to Perouges medieval village through la Dombes and its numerous ponds and birds watching spots. Guided walking tour of Perouges including its fortress church and picturesque cobble-stone narrow streets bordered by 13th to 16th century houses. Transfer to Lyon around 5:00pm. Time free. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the villa.
Day 5 (Sunday) : Continental breakfast. Check-out not later than 11:00am. End of the tour.
